Tis the summer of unfinished business. A couple of years ago I tried to run Beartooth Pass but it snowed the night before and MDOT closed it. This time We (Doug and I) are waiting until the last week of June. Hopefully, Mother Nature will cooperate. P.S. It didn’t! We’ll try again next year.

The other bit of unfinished business will be over Labor Day weekend when I re-attempt the Southern California Motorcycling Association’s Three Flags Classic˜ ride. During the first attempt, I had to change plans in Oregon and head to Seattle due to weather/equipment problems. This time around a friend of mine, George O. will join me and 240+ other riders as we make our way from San Luis Río Colorado, Sonora, Mexico to Veron, BC, Canada (hence Three Flags).

We check in on August 29th at the Hotel Araiza in San Luis Río Colorado.
There is a banquet that night and then we all start riding about 3 AM on Friday. There are 3 checkpoints along the way, (Cedar City, UT, Mountain Home, ID, Wallace, ID) that we need to sign in at to let the staff know we are still on the ride then we continue on to the next checkpoint. We need to arrive at the Vernon Lodge in Vernon, BC no later than Tuesday morning for the final check-in. Tuesday night is the closing banquet and then we leave for home Wednesday morning.

No, it is not 240+ riders all riding together. Each individual is riding alone, or with a buddy, or in a group of friends. George and I are riding as a group of two. There is an official route but as we live in Arizona we have seen and ridden the route’s beginning many times over. So we have established our own route for the first three days and then ride the last leg of the official route into Vernon, BC.

The above Google map will show our progress in real time using my cell phone’s GPS capabilities*. You can left-click on any spot on the path to see the statistics at that point in time. You may also send us a message by clicking on the teardrop, indicating our last known position, and typing your message in the text-box at the bottom of the popup. Please note that when we have completed the trip the above map will be changed to a static, not GPS driven, map.

Enjoy The Ride. I know we will.
