Day 1 - June 10, 2011 - Clackamas, OR

Got on the road at the crack of 8:00 AM and off by 4:00 PM PDT. Staying here tonight to have breakfast with old friends Cyndi and Hap and their two sons. Once again the weather gods lied to me. Sunny, yeah right! In my dreams. Overcast, chilly and they threw in some heavy “mist” for good measure. But it is what it is so back on the bike. It occurred to me that on this trip I have been to Portland, ME and Portland, OR.

Day 2 - June 11, 2011 - Pendleton, OR

Had too short of a breakfast with Cyndi, Stuart, Trey, and Eli this morning. It was great to see them again. It has been a couple of years since they passed through New Mexico. Short day today. I found myself very tired and it seemed that a storm was rolling in so time to call it a day. I know that I will pay for it tomorrow and Monday as I want to be in Vegas by late Monday afternoon. So it goes. Photos updated.

Day 3 - June 12, 2011 - Tremonton, UT

I really did not mean to spend almost 12 hours on the road today. But it was what it was due to the placement of or rather lack of motels along the route. See photo below. The scenery along I-84 in Oregon is quite nice. I could live there except the roadside signs  reading “Chain up area ahead” and the numerous snow fences on each side of the highway tell me that no, I can’t live there! Coming down I-84 I knew that there was a bike rally someplace by the number of bikes on the northbound side. Good thing I stopped early last night. Besides needing the ten hours sleep I got, the town I had planned to stop in was hosting the Hell’s Canyon Motorcycle Rally. All the motels were booked. Maybe I’ll check it out next year. Should be in Vegas tomorrow night and home on Tuesday. Photo have been updated.

Day 4 - June 13, 2011 - Tremonton, UT

Too long of a day yesterday. Decided to sleep in this morning; take a day off from the road. Will leave for Mesquite, NV in the morning and home on Wednesday.

Day 5 - June 14, 2011 - Mesquite, NV

Started the day getting on the bike and singing, in my best Slim Pickens voice, “Back In The Saddle Again.” Be thankful you weren’t there. Landed in Mesquite, NV right by the Virgin River Hotel/Casino. What a nice GPS I have. Goodnight.

Okay, the machines were kind enough to pay for my room, dinner and leave me some extra to get home on.
